I have been practicing law in South Dakota since 2004.   I opened my own practive in Sturgis in 2017 after working with firms in Spearfish.  The bulk of my clients come from the Northern Black Hills though my specialties have allowed me appear in many circuits around the state of South Dakota.

My main interest is assisting children and vulnerable adults who find themselves in need of legal resources.   I frequently represent children in matters of abuse and neglect and delinquencies, as well as adoptions and guardianships of minors.  I also specialize in guardianships and conservatorships for adults who struggle to respond to their environments in ways that it becomes necessary for the court to appoint another individual or entity to assist them.

Estate planning is another focus of my practice.  I can assist clients in exploring options for planning and taking the necessary steps to prepare for their disability or deaths.

I provide services as the defense attorney for the Northern Hills Drug Court and special assistant attorney general for the Division of Child Support.  I am also the chairperson of the Meade, Perkins, and Corson Counties’ Board of Mental Illness.

I came to the field of law after many years serving as an advocate for those with problems with the federal government, first as a constituent service representative for a United States Senator and then as a patient representative for the Department of Veterans Affairs.  My undergraduate degree came from South Dakota State University in mass communications and political science.  

Following my graduation from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 2003, I clerked for the Second Judicial Circuit in Sioux Falls.  I moved from there to the Meade County State’s Attorney’s office for a brief stint, before moving to private practice.  

I am a resident of Sturgis, and if I am not in the office or spending time with family, you will likely find me hiking in the Black Hills.
